Okay.. That’s the weirdest way to start the list.. But, if you’re just a little bit more curious than the average, that becomes a unique and cool suggestion. Cemeteries are an element of every city and in Athens’ case, a walk at the 1st Cemetery reveals facets of ancient & modern Greek culture.

Attend a Greek Metal Concert:

Didn’t expect that Greeks love Metal music, did you? Apparently Greek Rock & Metal music scene is quite big! Going to a concert tells you a lot about people’s culture and behavior. During summer, there’re many open-air concerts you can attend, otherwise, if you’re visiting off-season, we suggest that you go to one of the most historic Metal live stages of Athens (link included in the title).

Farmer’s Market shopping:

One of the strongest elements of Athenian Culture are the Farmer’s Markets, or ”Laiki Agora”, as we say in Greek. These markets take place in every neighborhood of the city, a specific day of the week. In this blog post, we include our three favorite. Exarhia (every Saturday until 3pm), Pangrati (every Friday until 3pm) & Petralona (every Wednesday until 3pm) farmer’s markets.

Athens Street Art Tour:

Street Art in Athens is a thriving phenomenon! We believe that the city is one of Europe’s graffiti capitals. Don’t worry.. It’s not an actual break-in.. You’re just going to use a secret entrance that leads you to a great chilling spot, just over the stadium, home of the first Olympic Games. Just sit there and relax, you will thank us later!

Watch a movie at an Open-Air Cinema:

A really important element of the Athenian culture is the Open-Air cinema. Now a part of the urban landscape, open-air cinemas could be found in every corner of the city, either built inside an apartment block, or at a central pedestrian street with a Parthenon view.. With a plethora of cinemas you can choose from, we include our top 3 authentic and local ones. Ekran, Panathinaia, Oasis. Unfortunately, open-air cinemas operate only for the summer months.

Play Street Basketball:

Even a casual walk around the city’s neighborhoods reveals many open-air basketball courts. That ‘s because Greeks love that sport! Playing at a 3-on-3 pick-up game can be one of the best ways you can interact with locals and discover local areas. Here we present to you three of our favorite basketball courts. Sepolia, Agios Andreas, Ampelokipi.

Hymmetus Mountain Hike:

Wondering how to combine nature and the best city view? Hymmetus mountain is a great city escape, because it offers beautiful hiking trails at a very reasonable distance from the city. The best way to reach the base of the mountain is by car. After parking your vehicle, choose a route you like, and enjoy your walk at Hymmetus mountain!
